Rally Updates for Monday, August 10

August 9, 2009

New information regarding the rallies going on tomorrow has come to light.  There will be a total of four rallies going on tomorrow.  Here is the information currently available:

8:30am – Egan Center

This rally will reach out to thank state legislatures for considering the energy funds totaling 28.6 million dollars.  The focus of the session will be a vote to override Governor Sarah Palin’s veto of federal stimulus money. By accepting the $28.6 million in State Energy Program funds, our legislators will be working to make jobs and energy efficiency a priority in Alaska.  Check here for more information.

11:00am – Dena’ina Center

Standing up for insurance reform in Anchorage with Sen. Begich (Health Care Public Event).  “Our representatives are under attack by Washington insiders, insurance companies, and well-financed special interests who don’t go a day without spreading lies and stirring up fear. We need to show that we’re sick and tired of it, and that we’re ready for real change, this year.”  Check here for more information.

11:00am – Egan Center

Tea Party.  “The purpose of this rally is to insist Alaska’s legislature sustain the governor’s veto of the federal stimulus energy funds.  This action will reduce Alaska’s responsibility for the national debt and assert Alaska’s right to reject intrusion by the Federal government into State and Local affairs”  Check here for more information.

12:00pm – F Street Sun Plaza @ Town Square

END THE CMS IMPOSED MORATORIUM NOW! Rally.  “The federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services [CMS] recently forced the State of Alaska to stop taking new applications for Medicaid waivers. Because of this ban, elders and people with disabilities, including kids, who are in nursing homes or hospitals and want to live at home may not have the choice to do so. Those who already live at home and want to stay at home may not be able to get the help they need – and could be forced into nursing homes.

Until this moratorium is lifted, we must continue to speak up and stand united to protect the lives and freedom of Alaskan elders and Alaskans with disabilities. Please join family, friends, service providers and self-advocates on Monday at Noon at the F Street Sun Plaza on Town Square Park.”  Check here for more information.

Needless to say, downtown is going to be very busy tomorrow morning.  I recommend checking the sites for the respective rallies for information before heading over there, as plans may change.  We’ll be down there checking out the different events.  Stay safe and try not to get drawn into a scuffle!
